A fuel surcharge (or FAF) is an extra charge that is added to the calculated freight charge to reflect the varying price of fuel.
Skip ahead to
A fuel surcharge is a percentage value that is added to the base freight rate calculation. It can be positive (to reflect an increase in fuel prices) or negative (to reflect a drop in prices).
There is a fuel surcharge for each combination of customer and carrier - meaning that if you have 3 customers and 10 carriers, you'll need to have 30 fuel surcharge entries set up.
Finding a fuel surcharge
To see a fuel surcharge, go to Extra charges in the Invoices section of eCargo Web. Select the appropriate customer and supplier (carrier), then choose Fuel surcharge as the rate extra.
Adding a fuel surcharge
See above to find the fuel surcharge screen for the relevant customer and carrier. If there is no existing surcharge, a New button will be displayed - otherwise you should use Supersede to add a new surcharge.
Superseding a surcharge overrides an old surcharge with a new one.
Value |
The percentage surcharge to be added to the base rate. |
Optional |
Whether it's optional for the charge to be applied (leave this as No for a fuel surcharge). |
Order |
The order which the charge should be applied. This should be 1 for a fuel surcharge - it is applied before other types charges of extra charges. |
Valid from |
The date the charge starts applying from. |
Changing a fuel surcharge
See above to find the fuel surcharge screen for the relevant customer and carrier. From there, use the Edit button to make changes to an existing surcharge.
Edit should only be used if the fuel surcharge was set up incorrectly. Instead of editing an outdated charge, you can Supersede (override) it with a new surcharge - the Valid from date of your new surcharge will make previous surcharges invalid from that date.
